Troop 362 Sierra Camping Trip 2004
When: August 16-19, 2004.
Where: Saddlebag Lake Campground, 10 miles west of Lee Vining, Calif.
Fee: $50 per person
Saddlebag Lake Campground s located in the high Sierras at about
a 10,000 ft elevation. We have a group reservation to camp there,
about 100 yards from Saddlebag Lake, checking in at 2 pm August
16th, departing no later than 2 pm Thursday, August 19th. Our reservation
is for not more than 25 people.
The surrounding area gives us tremendous flexibility. Adjacent
to Saddlebag Lake is Twenty Lakes Basin, a 5 mile loop hiking trail
(Yep, it really does have 20 lakes). Closeby are Mt. Conness and
the Conness Glacier.
Both lake and stream fishing are available. You can fish Saddlebag
Lake, Lake Emery off the main road, any of the nearby streams, or
your favorite spot on the Twenty Lakes Basin Loop. Saddlebag Lake
is very near the entrance to Yosemite National Park, for those wanting
to venture there also. This is not a backpacking trip. We will have
a base camp within 100 yards of our vehicles, allowing us to bring
larger tents, stoves, ice chests, chairs, etc.
A typical view from Saddlebag is here.
